VIRTUAL BALANCE & FALL RISK SCREENING EVENT

August 14, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Hello all,

Please consider sharing/forwarding this opportunity for our next Virtual Balance & Falls Risk Assessments on August 14th with your respective communities! Thank you so much.

—————————————————–

ANNOUNCING: NEXT OPPORTUNITY FOR VIRTUAL BALANCE ASSESSMENTS WITH WINSTON-SALEM STATE PHYSICAL THERAPY & OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY STUDENTS – AUGUST 14th!

If we have learned anything from COVID-19, it is that prevention is incredibly important. This is also incredibly true in the realm of FALLS PREVENTION. While COVID-19 has certainly impacted our falls prevention efforts in the past 6 weeks, Winston-Salem State University is excited to announce our VIRTUAL BALANCE & FALL RISK SCREENING EVENT as an innovative way to help our communities STAY PROACTIVE in preventing falls and improving balance right from home!

How will it work?

We will be using a virtual platform that allows us to screen you from the comfort of your own home with the help of a computer, smartphone, or tablet! Once you sign up for your date/time slot, you will receive an email with a link and instructions to access the virtual platform from your device. When your appointment time arrives, you will use the link to access our “virtual office”, where you will be paired with a student physical therapist who will complete your screening. You will be screened in a private format– just you and your screener (and the overseeing Physical Therapist). The screener will talk you through the assessment items, including questions and physical tests that tell us about your current balance and risk level. The screener will watch you through the camera on the device to score your tests. At the end of your tests, the screener will explain your results and give you customized recommendations on balance and strength programs that would be safe and suitable options for you to access from home based on your assessment results, as well as answer any questions you have that pertain to improving your balance, strength, and mobility to reduce your risk of falling.

 What will I need?

You will need:

·         A stable chair, pushed against a wall
·         A smartphone, computer, OR tablet, and table to set it on that will allow us to see you
·         An object (cup, pen or pencil, etc) handy to use for one of the tests
·         Another person to “guard” (preferable) or a sturdy surface to hold onto
·         Safety is our TOP priority, so we will help you with how to position your chair in a corner to maximize safety during the virtual assessment.

 How do I sign up?

Click HERE to access our sign up form. After completing the form, you will receive an email with your exact screening appointment time, safe setup instructions, and detailed instructions on logging into to the virtual platform that will allow us to assess you from the comfort of your own home with the use of a computer, smartphone, or tablet.

Please email aclfallsgrant@wssu.edu with any additional questions, and we hope to ‘see’ you soon!
