A Resource for Increasing Our Community’s Understanding of Mental Health and Substance Use Issues Facing Older Adults

The Geriatric Specialty Team (GAST) has been a valuable resource in our community for many years. With the recent change from Cardinal to Partners as the local management entity (LME) for behavioral health in Forsyth County, leadership of GAST has changed for our area. This meeting is our chance to meet Dawn Lillard who works with the Partners GAST Team and learn about the educational and training opportunities offered by GAST.

Dawn, who has spent most of her nursing career in the area of mental health, has worked with GAST for 17 years. She will share information about who serves on GAST teams and what they do, target audiences and topics covered, and how to request and schedule classes for your organization. One of her favorite quotes is from Maya Angelou: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

Let’s begin 2022 with a commitment to “know better” and “do better” when it comes to addressing the mental health needs of the older adults we care for and about. Join us on February 3 and connect with friends and colleagues who work with older adults in faith communities, community organizations, and long-term care/home health settings.
