Presenter: Ann Renigar Hiatt, Ph.D.

Ann received a Ph.D. from UNCG with a major in Family Relations and minor in Research Methods. She has taught at UNCG and was involved in research studies at A & T State University, Florida Atlantic University, and UNCC. In 1996, her life radically changed when her mother was diagnosed with dementia. Ann became a long-distance caregiver, traveling weekly between Ohio and Winston-Salem. In 2005, she returned to Winston-Salem to be with her mother and became involved in support groups at the Williams Adult Day Center. After her mother’s death, she recounted her emotional journey in her memoir, Detour Down Desperation Road. For the past five years, Ann has facilitated two weekly caregiver support groups at the Williams Day Center and is a trained Powerful Tools for Caregivers Facilitator.
Ann’s presentation will include insights gained from both her personal and professional experience.
