Professional pianist and educator, Dr. Alison Gagnon’s experience with her parents during their dementia journey led her to take a semester leave in the fall of 2019 to research the role of music in dementia care, and to launch a pilot project through UNCSA’s ArtistCorps community engagement initiative. The team’s work continues through pandemic times, creating video content that can be used in the home, and preparing resources that can be shared with other schools of music that want to start their own programs to provide interactive musicmaking for dementia care.
