Dr. Althea Taylor-Jones Brings Updates from Senior Tarheel Legislature

The NC Senior Tarheel Legislature was formed by the NC General Assembly in 1992 as a nonpartisan forum for assessing the legislative needs of older citizens of North Carolina. It is made up of one resident from each of the state’s 100 counties and promotes citizen involvement and advocacy concerning aging issues that are before the NC General Assembly. It also aims to educate older citizens on the legislative process and how to be involved in issues that matter to the aging population.

Dr. Althea Taylor-Jones is well-known in our community. She retired in 2009 as Professor and Gerontology Program Administrator at Winston-Salem State University and has served as the Forsyth County Delegate to the Senior Tarheel Legislature since 2006. Her achievements in the field of gerontology are numerous. She is the 2023 recipient of the GRITS Award (Gerontologists Rooted in the South) and served as President of the Southern Gerontological Society in 2021-2022. In 2019 she received the Pioneer Award for long-term service to older adults, presented by the NC Coalition on Aging. Locally, she was a Seven Over Seventy Award winner in 2020. She is the author of Colorful Memories: Aging with Style.

We will all be enriched by the information Dr. Taylor-Jones will share and by her energetic passion for older adults and the issues that matter to the older citizens of Forsyth County and North Carolina.
