In caring for an aging parent, the hope is that you can keep your loved one safe and autonomous for as long as possible.  However, your needs as a caregiver change just like those of the aging parent, and it is important to recognize when these occur and the impact this has on all generations in your network.  It is also important to understand the normal physical changes associated with aging.  Understanding the anticipated changes ahead allows you as a caregiver to be prepared when there are changes in your parents care needs, but also aids you in the ability to identify changes early that may be associated with an underlying medical concern.  Frailty syndrome can present with aging adults due to the associated physical changes of aging.  It is important that you as a caregiver understand the risks associated with increased frailty, but also know how to identify when your aging parent is at risk and would benefit from associated preventive and treatment interventions.
